Meet Dr. Garcia Estrella
Originally from Colombia and raised in Miami, Florida, Dr. Mariacamila Garcia Estrella, Camila, developed a passion for veterinary medicine at just six years old. She was inspired by the opportunity to break barriers, care for animals, and serve as a role model for others interested in entering the veterinary profession.
Dr. Garcia Estrella earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Cornell University in 2017. She continued her education at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she earned her veterinary degree in 2023.
Before joining Cape Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Garcia Estrella worked as a veterinary assistant in Miami and completed wildlife medicine internships with organizations including the South Florida Wildlife Center, the Jane Goodall Institute in the Republic of the Congo, and WWF Indonesia. These experiences helped shape her interests in One Health, conservation medicine, public health, production medicine, preventive care, and surgery.
Dr. Garcia Estrella is a member of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners and the American Association of Small Ruminant Practitioners. She is especially passionate about expanding access to veterinary care for underserved communities, including members of the Latinx community.
Her commitment to education, inclusion, and community service extends beyond the hospital. Dr. Garcia Estrella works with BLENDvet to support diversity, equity, and inclusion within the veterinary profession. She also guides pre-veterinary students pursuing international veterinary experiences through Loop Abroad and participates in FARVETS, an organization that provides low-cost spay and neuter clinics in developing countries.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Garcia Estrella enjoys spending time with her Corgi-Poodle mix, Kyo. Her hobbies include dancing, singing, swimming, camping, reading, traveling, and exploring new restaurants.
